The Swing Riot

The Swing Riot are a new band playing vintage tunes and songs from the 1930s and beyond, blasted out with two guitars, clarinet, stompbox and vocals in the Django Reinhardt Hot Club style.  The band consists of Julian Gaskell on vocals, guitar and stompbox along with two members of legendary Cornwall swing band ‘Swingology’ – Dan Hughes on clarinet and Marius Jensen on guitar.

Julian Gaskell has been working on playing this style of music for many years, occasionally a snatch of the jazz-manouche has appeared on his songs such as ‘Be careful what you say’, but with The Swing Riot the 1930’s guitar style of Django Reinhardt takes centre stage alongside some Al Bowlly style British crooning and storming jazz clarinet. Successfully combining the accomplished musicality of the Swingology duo with Gaskell’s robust and energetic style, The Swing Riot are already proving to be wildly popular at their monthly residency at the Moth and Moon in Falmouth (see the gig page for upcoming dates) and it is looking like 2025 will be a busy year for them with gigs coming in thick and fast…

Here is a video which gives some idea of what to expect at a Swing Riot gig, more videos will be appearing soon, follow them on social media or join the Gaskell mailing list here to keep yourself informed!
