Julian Gaskell & his Ragged Trousered Philanthropists will be returning to the Cornish Bank on Sunday May 4th for a concert to celebrate the long-awaited release of our album Broadside Bangers on Kroustpop! Records.
The Ragged trio of Gaskell, Gibson and Sharpe will be performing ballads from the album as well as a selection of oldies and originals, plus there will be a performance of Ethel Darling’s Love Juice, a classic black and white comedy cabaret act featuring the star of our Cat’s Head Apples video. We also have some other surprise guests lined up…
Tickets are available from the thecornishbank.co.uk at £6/£8/£10
The album, which will be available on CD at the gig with a limited edition ballad-print foldout, is something of a return to Gaskell’s garage-punk roots, taking an expertly curated selection of 19th century printed ballads from their unloved music-hall obscurity into new and disturbing musical depths using folk instruments and gravelly vocals along with layers of distortion, electronic trickery and a rusty collection of spring reverbs. Full of brutal tales of death, cats, apples, burials, trains, boats, poltergeists and revenge, this album definitively sets out the broadside vision that Gaskell has been banging on about for many years.
You can preview the album (and stream from 1st May) here… https://juliangaskell.bandcamp.com/album/broadside-bangers
